Zack Simmons began seriously pursuing proper percussive knowledge at the age of nine years old. Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, he studied with private instructors and in the school and drumline setting all through his high school years, leading to his involvement with several local bands in the area.
Zack joined New Orleans based, Goatwhore in 2004 at the age of 17. Since then, the band has toured the U.S. and Canada relentlessly and has made successful trips to Europe and Australia. Touring to support the newest release, "Carving Out The Eyes Of God" on Metal Blade records, the band supported some of metal's most legendary underground acts, such as Celtic Frost, Venom, Emperor, Gwar, Devildriver, etc. as well as appearances at Ozzfest 2008 and 2010. The band's work ethic and determination have gained them a notable reputation in today's metal scene.
More recently, Zack filled in on drums for numerous tours and recorded an EP with psychadelic black metal band Nachtmystium and also filled in on a US tour with the band Daath. Zack's powerful, consistent, and technical drumming is part of what makes him one of metal's premiere drummers today. Drums for the newest Goatwhore release were recorded this past July with Erik Rutan and the new record will see a February 2012 release through Metal Blade Records.
